How Assisted Living Basic Health Improves Quality of Life
By Team Writer | August 14, 2024
Assisted living basic health is a comprehensive program of care that is unique to Kentucky senior living communities. Assisted living basic care includes everything from three meals every day to housing to assistance with activities of daily living and social activities. The goal is to provide each assisted living resident with the care they need to maintain good health and quality of life. At Presbyterian Homes of Kentucky, we go the extra mile to ensure all of the above and more!
5 ways assisted living basic health senior living communities improve quality of life
#1: Beautiful home options
At Presbyterian Homes of Kentucky our assisted living basic health housing options include both studio, and one-bedroom choices. Each room is designed to be comfortable, safe, accessible, and close to all the community has to offer. Our residents can receive all the care they need in the privacy of their rooms from personal attendants, and regular housekeeping, laundry, and linen services are included. Check out the floor plans at Rose Anna Hughes.
#2: Care choices
The level of care each senior needs to really stay safe and enjoy an independent lifestyle varies from person to person. For that reason, at Presbyterian Homes of Kentucky we offer assisted living basic health, which is assisted living with the added benefit of medical oversight. Assisted living basic health offers a level of medical care on-site, medication management, on-site rehabilitation, and other types of medical care provided by licensed medical professionals.
For those who currently live at home but would like to experience all that assisted living has to offer, we also welcome seniors for short-term stays in respite care. This is great way to see if the lifestyle is a good fit and allows family caregivers time off for rest and other personal pursuits.
#3: Social engagement
Few things are so important yet so elusive for seniors than socialization. As friends and spouses pass away or move, and mobility becomes a challenge, seniors at home often find themselves alone, lonely and isolated. When this happens declining health may be close behind.
According to the nia.nih.gov article, “Social isolation, loneliness in older people pose health risks,” not only is loneliness implicated in heart disease, a weekend immune system, and depression, it can also “help cancer cells grow and spread” and “promote inflammation in the brain leading to Alzheimer’s disease.”
Our plan at Presbyterian Homes of Kentucky is to provide assisted living basic health through a diverse and engaging schedule of social opportunities so every resident can experience a warm and welcoming community of friends. When a resident needs extra assistance to participate, help is ready. Whether it’s to get to a bingo game on time, attend a musical performance, or join an exercise or bible study class, support is always close by to lend a hand.
#4: Excellent meals
Meals can be a chore or a celebration and at Presbyterian Homes of Kentucky we definitely opt for the latter. As part of our assisted living basic health program our meals are served restaurant style in a beautiful dining room where residents can enjoy eating with friends rather than in isolation at home alone.
Equally important is the quality of the food in both appeal and nutrition. We know our residents and pay close attention to the special dietary needs of seniors. For example, as noted in the health.gov article, “Nutrition as We Age: Healthy Eating with the Dietary Guidelines,” we know our residents need more protein, vitamin B12 and fiber, and fewer fats and sugars, so we create meals that meet their needs, including those on special diets.
#5: Worry-free living
Many seniors don’t even consider assisted living because they believe they cannot afford it. At Presbyterian Homes of Kentucky, however, our goal is to provide assisted living basic health services that are affordable even for those who may not have deep financial resources. All of our apartments are provided for a flat monthly fee and living options are based on each individual’s budget.
Also important to understand is that as a not-for-profit organization, our mission is to provide for those in need. As a result, when a resident of our assisted living basic health program exhausts their financial resources, they can apply for funding from The Caring Hands Fund which provides supplemental payments to those who meet the requirements.
Quality of life is a priority in our assisted living basic health program and we welcome questions and inquiries. Contact us today and schedule a tour of our senior living communities.
